Our Activities

Annual Memorial Lecture

Each year we hold the Bernie Grant Memorial Lecture. Professor Gary Younge, Afua Hirsch, Professor Kehinde Andrews and Rt Hon Jeremy Corbyn have been amongst recent lecturers.
The Trust may also hold other occasional events of relevance, such as it did for black candidates of all parties at a recent election.

The Bernie Grant Archive

The Bernie Grant Archive is a unique and substantial resource
comprised of contemporary material documenting the life and
times of the late MP, set up by the Trust with help from the National
Lottery and the Trust for London in 2004. It comprises papers,
letters, cuttings, campaigning materials, as well as audio and video
resources and is housed at the Bishopsgate Institute. Our aim to
make much more of its contents available digitally. http://berniegrantarchive.org.uk

Education

The trust has run a number of leadership and citizenship programmes in recent years. In 2018 it secured a major Heritage Lottery Award to develop awareness of archives and promote understanding of the black experience. As part of this project we pioneered a fresh approach to providing teachers with resources to reflect the black experience in the curriculum. We are now seeking further funding to take this work much further beyond this first phase.
